The idea was originally a metaphor for the planet's inevitable overpopulation problems, with the right-most baby literally being "born" from the river (ew, I know), but the concept has grown to represent generational strife. It's also fun to think of it as cloning operation on Mars gone astray, or a group of normal sized babies playing with toy soldiers in imagination land. The concept is up to you.  

The visual first came to me as a quick (and embarrassingly low-res) sketch nearly 2 years ago (screenshot below). I recently returned to it with Photoshop, embarking on an 80+ hour journey of form-drawing, shadowing, and dust effects.
